There are many ways to make and mash holiday potatoes. In our family, Jeff uses an electric mixer to make them creamy. At my mom’s house, my brother whips them by hand. The extra ingredients vary and are flexible, but Yukon Gold is the overall top pick for all of us.
2 lbs. Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 clove garlic, minced
3/4 cup milk, heavy cream or buttermilk ( We use buttermilk)
Butter and salt to taste.
Variation for extra flavor – add chicken bouillon ( concentrate or cubes) to the water or substitute chicken broth for water.
Cover potatoes and garlic with water in 4-quart pot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender; drain. Return potatoes to pot. Mash in your preferred style. Stir in remaining ingredients until melted.
